Ford has temporarily suspended production at its Edison, Twin Cities and St. Louis Assembly Plants to divert tires from new vehicle production to its service stock to help meet customer demand for replacement of recalled Firestone tires. Ford has announced that the plants will remain idle for two weeks starting August 28th and reopening September 11th.

We are taking this significant step as part of our commitment to expedite replacement of recalled Firestone tires and to ensure our customers’ safety and peace of mind. We expect this will add about 70,000 tires to the replacement population. We also are working with Firestone to increase their production and asking other manufacturers to produce tires for us. We wish we could get everyone impacted by the recall in new tires tomorrow, but the tires simply aren’t available yet. We’re taking a number of actions to make it happen sooner rather than later.
