Porsche Engineering, which has operated the facility since 2012, said the renovation of the 12.6km circular track and dynamic platform for car testing at the Nardo Technical Centre in Apulia, Italy, had been completed and opened officially.
The works cost EUR35m, took seven months and are, Porsche said, "part of the strategic development of the testing ground" so "customers are always provided with the perfect conditions to test the vehicles of tomorrow".

The track has received "complex asphalting" and an "innovative" guard rail system developed specifically for high-speed testing. The work also included complete renovation of the car dynamic platform which covers 106,000 square metres.
There are several more extensions and renewals planned for the future.
The centre with 20 tracks and facilities on 700 hectares, has 90 automotive companies as customers and employs 150 people. It was founded in 1975 with the construction of the car circular track and offers extensive facilities for testing and conducting trials for any phase of development.
The famed high-speed circular track is unique at 12.6km long and was built to allow vehicles to be tested under extreme conditions.

"Engineering services for external customers are a cornerstone of the Porsche identity and an important part," the company said.
"However, the public knows little about this. [We operated] according to a policy of strict confidentiality to ensure that the product strategies and brand identities of customers are always protected with the greatest care."
