Malaysian national carmaker Proton reported an almost 20% year-on-year sales rise to 11,873 vehicles in February 2021, which it claims is the highest level in over a decade.

The company has benefited from strong demand for the new Geely-based X50 compact SUV which was launched at the end of October last year. It slotted in below the X70, a slightly larger SUV also based on a Geely model, originally launched at the end of 2018 and updated in August 2020.
