Kia is looking to increase its exposure to strong local demand for recreational vehicles which have outperformed in the current Indian market slump.

Kia launched production of its new Seltos compact SUV earlier this year at its new Andhra Pradesh plant in the south of the country. The facility has an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles which the company hopes to fully utilise within three years with three models for sale locally and also for export to markets in the Middle East, Latin America and Asia.

Local sales of the Seltos have exceeded 40,600 units since deliveries began in July.

Kia has set a local sales target of 160,000 units in 2020 for its three models produced in India.
