Ford Sollers says its Elabuga Assembly operations in Tatarstan has created around 600 new jobs including both staff as well as agency posts and is moving from its current five-day working week to a six-day working pattern with immediate effect.

The new recruitment brings the total workforce at Ford Sollers’ two plants in Tatarstan, Russia, at Elabuga and Naberezhnye Chelny, to more than 2,800 people.

The new jobs and additional working day will allow Ford Sollers to increase production volumes to respond to growing customer demand for Ford sports utility and commercial vehicles in Russia.

The Ford Sollers Elabuga plant builds Kuga and Explorer SUVs, as well as the Transit commercial vehicle for Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent markets of Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia.

Combined sales of these models increased more than 50% last year. Ford Sollers’ forecast for the Russian automotive market remains optimistic, expecting 10% to 15% growth in the near future given growing demand for SUVs and commercial vehicles.

Production of Ford vehicles at the Elabuga facility started in 2012. All three Ford models are full-cycle manufactured, including welding and painting.

During the preparation for the launch of the latest Kuga SUV in 2016, the welding, painting and assembly lines were modernised and new quality testing technologies implemented.
