Supplier SHW Automotive said an order it received last September "from a manufacturer of fully electric vehicles" for electric axle drive pumps, with a lifetime sales volume worth about EUR100m had been abruptly cancelled along with a request for SHW to stop preparing for series production.

SHW did not name its unhappy customer in a regulatory filing.

"As main reason for the cancellation, the manufacturer states the nonalignment of the technical specifications for the axle drive pumps with the requirements of the model in question," SHW said in a statement.

"SHW does not consider the reasons given by the manufacturer to be valid. [We are] therefore assessing the legal effectiveness of the order cancellation as well as its legal consequences and reserves the right to claim damages.

"SHW continues to be confident of its ability to sustainably participate in the development of the electromobility market."

The Reuters news agency said the news had sent SHW shares down as much as 9.5% to a four-month low on Tuesday (24 January). It contacted major electrified vehicle makers including the Renault-Nissan alliance, Toyota and Tesla but was unable to obtain comments.
