The factory will also supply Volvo in South Carolina and Daimler in Alabama.

Plastic Omnium will equally produce fuel systems for an unnamed Japanese carmaker in its new Tennessee plant, with both sites planned to start operations in mid-2018.

The supplier will have invested US$300m in the construction of four new plants in the US during a three-year period, employing nearly 1,000 people.

Data from just-auto’s QUBE service shows Plastic Omnium’s Automotive Division recorded 2016 revenue up 17.3% to EUR6.6bn.

The supplier attributes the results to “robustness of our backlog, ramping-up production from new facilities (Mexico, UK and China), and the success of our portfolio of products.”

Business was particularly strong in 2016 in the UK (up by 28.5%) thanks in particular to the commissioning of the Warrington-Liverpool plant for exterior parts for Jaguar Land-Rover in June last year.
