Only one week after pledging £130m in investment to it’s Solihull, UK plant, Land Rover is pushing 800 staff to volunteer for redundancy.

Land Rover, the Ford-owned manufacturer, is hoping to reduce its 10,000 workforce as part of plans to turn the profit corner inside 2-years.

Nearly 300 volunteers have so far been found to take advantage of the package – guaranteed by Ford in its £1.8bn deal with BMW – until May next year.

Tony Woodley, chief car industry negotiator for the T&G Union, said any compulsory redundancies would be unacceptable.
