South Korean auto parts manufacturer Hyundai Mobis is set to unveil its first domestic proving ground this week, with operations set to start in June.
The new KRW300bn (US$268m) proving ground, located in Seosan – 150km (90 miles) south of the countrys capital city Seoul, took 2.5 years to build.

Having its own proving ground, rather than renting facilities from third parties, will help the company intensify R&D and testing of existing product lines as well as help develop new technologies such as autonomous driving.
Hyundai Mobis currently makes chassis systems such as braking systems, suspension and stability control, steering systems, lighting, body and interior modules and drive controls.
The new proving ground has a 4.2km high speed test track and other facilities designed to test endurance, all-terrain and all-weather driving conditions.
The company said until now it has tested components in facilities as far away as New Zealand, China and Sweden, particularly for cold weather testing.
