One of Japan's largest car leasing companies, Sumitomo Mitsui Auto Service Company, now provides an AI system that monitors and analyzes driver behavior using a dashboard camera to assess the risk of accidents.

Some of the driver behaviour these systems look out for includes frequent sideways looking, dozing at the wheel, reckless driving and the use of mobile phones.

Orix Auto Corporationis also urging corporate clients to use an onboard system developed by NautoInc of the USA which incorporates two dashboard cameras linked to an AI system to detect erratic driver behavior that could lead to accidents.

These systems constantly record driver as well as road traffic activity and this can used as evidence in the case of an accident.

Orix charges an initial installation fee and a monthly service charge for the Nauto system, which can also produce monthly reports for its clients.
