China's CW Bearing began operations at its new US26m ball bearing plant located in Northville Township in the US state of Michigan last week.

Local subsidiary CW Bearing USA, which is controlled by China's Cixing Group, last Friday held a grand opening ceremony for the new plant and a new regional headquarters and technical centre in Northville, which replace the existing operations in Tustin, California.

The new plant will create an initial 125 local jobs and was awarded a performance-related grant of US$550,000 by the Northville local council.

Cixing Group was established in 1984 in Ningbo in China's Zhejiang province and specializes in the production of bearings for a wide range of applications, including automotive, gearboxes, electrical motors and power tools.

Around 70% of group revenue comes from the automotive sector, which key clients including Nexteer, ZF-TRW, Japan's JTEKT and South Korea's Mando. The company hopes the new plant, near the Detroit automotive hub, will help strengthen its foothold in the North American automotive market.
