Tata Motors' Timothy (Tim) Leverton, president and chief technical officer, is leaving the company to relocate back to the UK for personal reasons, according to a statement.

Leverton has been with Tata Motors since 2010 working out of the Engineering Research Centre in Pune.

Guenter Butschek, CEO and MD, Tata Motors said: "It has been wonderful working with Tim during my tenure and it is indeed a loss that he has decided to leave and move back to UK for personal reasons. Tim has actively led the research and development initiatives of Tata Motors and we thank him for his invaluable contribution."

Leverton leaves on 31 October and his successor has not yet been announced.

Tata Motors said yesterday its passenger and commercial vehicles total sales (including exports) in August 2017 were at 48,988 vehicles, higher by 14% over 43,105 vehicles sold in August 2016.

The company's domestic sales of commercial and passenger vehicles for August 2017 were at 45,906 units, higher by 26%, over 36,510 units, in August 2016, due to growing demand across segments and increased "positive customer sentiments".
