BorgWarner Cooling Systems has developed a new generation of fans that it claims exceed worldwide benchmarks for efficiency, noise, and airflow performance, even at high-pressure differentials.

The open, or ringless, nine-blade polymer fan was designed specifically for highly restrictive cooling applications, as in the global agricultural and off-highway markets.

The fan provides a wide operating area with efficiencies peaking at nearly 50%. In-vehicle evaluations show up to a six dB(A) reduction in noise when compared to conventional fan designs.

The open fan design eliminates any dirt collecting and imbalance issues that ring fans tend to exhibit in applications with high speeds and heavy dust contamination.

Even at normal operating conditions, the new fan design is claimed to provide improved features with about 15-20% less weight and inertia, easier belt access, and reduced shipping costs and storage space.
