UK automakers, including Toyota, Jaguar Land Rover, Ford, the Ford/PSA joint venture and BMW collectively made 230,868 engines in the UK in February, up 11.1% year on year. Production for the UK market rose 44% to 101,967 while output for export fell 5.9% to 128,901.

Year to date production was up 6.3% to 440,754.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said: "February's 11.1% growth in British engine production was the sector's biggest in six months, led by a sharp rise in output for the domestic market. This was in contrast to a moderate fall in units built for export, which still accounts for more than half of overall production. We anticipate a positive year for engine manufacturing, as new facilities continue to ramp up volumes."
