A spokesman for Volkswagen of America has told just-auto that the Jetta Hybrid is being discontinued. The car was built at Puebla in Mexico, mainly for the US market.
“It had a low take rate and low gas prices are affecting sales of hybrids,” VoA’s manager of Product and Technology Communications Mark Gillies stated in an emailed reply. The US division sold 49,662 Jettas during the first five months of 2016. Hybrid deliveries are not broken out, however.

The Jetta Hybrid was revealed by Volkswagen of America in June 2010 and a production model had its global debut at the Detroit auto show in January 2012, going on sale in the US ten months later.
The current Jetta, which dates to 2010, is expected to be progressively replaced starting with the US market model, sourced from Puebla, in 2017. The Chinese version, the Sagitar, will follow. There could also be a separate model – a sort of ‘CC’ Jetta.
