More on the 2003 UK and European specification Honda Accord line: Britain’s Autocar magazine this week says the Japanese-built cars will dump the current UK-built range’s 1.8-litre entry level petrol engine and start off with a 160bhp two-litre with a 2.4-litre 180bhp unit optional.

There will be no US-style V6, the magazine adds, but there will be a hot 2.4-litre Type R version with 250bhp that will debut, with the 140bhp diesel, in 2004.
Like Saab’s new 9-3, the Accord will drop the five-door hatchback body style but the four-door sedan will be joined by a new ‘lifestyle estate’ (station wagon), Autocar says.
Honda Europe offered a US-built Accord wagon between 1994-1998 but it was never a big seller.
Autocar added that the new Accord range would sound the death knell for Honda’s Legend saloon in the UK where less than 100 are sold a year.
