Tesla Motors has opened an official website and started accepting pre-orders in South Korea for its three models, a local report said.

Prospective customers can make a pre-order by submitting personal information that includes name, email address and phone number and paying a reservation fee, the Korea Times reported.

For the flagship Model S sedan, KRW2m won (US$1,780) is required for a reservation while the Model X SUV requires KRW5m. Preordering a Model 3 will require KRW1m.

Tesla Motors fully refunds the reservation fee if a pre-order is cancelled by the customer, the paper said.

The website also offers test drives for the Model S. When applying online, it tells customers: "Tesla Motors is preparing its operation in Korea, and our staff will contact you as soon as the vehicle is ready."

The website will also offer dealership and service centre plus charging station locations. But none are shown for Korea yet, the report added.

Last November, Tesla Motors registered its operation under the name Tesla Korea Limited in Korea. It is expected to open showrooms at the Starfield shopping mall in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, and in Gangnam, southern Seoul, in November, the Korea Times said.
