Five freight truck models are initially on offer with the Allison MD3060P five-speed close ratio automatic gearbox, including two 15 tonners (ML150E18, ML150E24) and three 18 tonners (ML180E21, ML180E24 and ML180E28).

“Our ability to provide customers with an automatic gearbox built on the production line means that lead times for such specialist vehicles will be significantly reduced,” said Dave Sims, Director Business Unit Trucks at Iveco Truck.

“These vehicles should prove particularly popular with pick-up and delivery companies operating in urban areas, as well as with local authorities and rental companies using vehicles for refuse collection duties which involve continual stop / start driving,” he adds.

The Allison MD3060P gearbox includes five forward speeds and one reverse (available via push button gear selection, as opposed to a lever), power shifting, hydraulic torque converter with lock-up clutch on all gears (except 1st) and an electronic control and management unit (ECU).

It also includes a provision for two lateral PTOs and has an integrated gearbox and engine cooling system.
