Flooding on the Elbe river in Dresden, eastern Germany, has forced Volkswagen to reduce production of its new Phaeton luxury because the plant has been cut off from its from its parts warehouse, Bloomberg News reported.

Swollen by rain, the river has blocked train tracks linking the logistics centre where components are stored and the car factory but a spoesman said VW is still making “some cars” with parts on hand, Bloomberg said.
Phaeton production was stopped on Tuesday when Volkswagen first became aware of the flood dangerbut some work resumed yesterday, Bloomberg News said.
The spokesman told the news service that there was n danger the plant would be flooded though the logistics centre at one stage had been under four inches of water.
Volkswagen would not say how much production has been lost, saying it can make up once the flood waters have gone down, Bloomberg News said.
