Production will instead be moved to China where it will roll off the line from December. It will be made in in a new factory funded by Volvo Cars parent Geely in Daqing in Heilongjiang Province.

The ‘old’ XC90 will be offered as a budget alternative alongside the redesigned version which will be imported into China from early 2015.

Geely reportedly will also use the XC90 platform for an SUV of its own which is expected to be launched late in 2015.

The China-made XC90 will be available only with the 2.5 litre petrol engine, CarNewsChina.com said.
