The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand increased sales 3.9% to 1.48m vehicles in the first three months of this year after delivering 557,800 (+4.8%) in March.
“The delivery figures for Volkswagen Passenger Cars, our core brand, in the first three months of the year were encouraging. Deliveries in Europe continued to improve and we saw further expansion in Asia in particular; however, this contrasted with a tense market situation in South America,” Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, said in Wolfsburg on Tuesday.
European sales rose 6.6% to 422,300 (208,800; +7.8% in western Europe minus Germany) with Germany up 5.3% to 133,100.
Russian sales dipped 2.7% to 34,300.
Asia-Pacific sales rose 13.3% to 740,100 but North America was off 7.6% to 134,600 with the US down 11.1% to 87,300. South American deliveries slumped 23.5% to 135,000 with Brazil off 19.7% to 105,300.
