General Motors plans to put around a fifth of its workers at the São José dos Campos, Brazil factory on paid leave, reported Reuters.
Reducing exports to Argentina and falling demand have led the company to this decision in order to boost profits.

Of the 5,200 workers at the factory, 1,000 could be laid off. The company is expected to discuss the proposal with the workers on 1 August.
