Nissan’s upmarket Infiniti brand will build three smaller models on a shared Daimler platform at the factory the two companies are building in Aguascalientes.

Nissan’s executive vice president Andy Palmer, who is responsible for Infiniti, told reporters that the vehicles will share the same small-car platform and might also incorporate Daimler turbo engine technology.

The Q30, which is also going to be built at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK, will be the first of the three models and is due to go into production in Mexico in 2017. This will be followed by two other compact models including an SUV, in 2020, said Palmer.
