According to just-auto‘s Product Lifecycle Database (PLDB), the K4, built at the Dongfeng Yueda Kia plant in Yancheng, Jiangsu, is closely related to the similarly sized Hyundai Mingtu/Mistra. These cars compete in a niche: sedans that are sized between the traditional C and D segments.

The K4 made its world debut in pre-production form at the Beijing motor show in April 2014. This concept was powered by a 1.6-litre GDI turbo engine driving the front wheels through a seven-speed DCT.

Dongfeng Kia believes the new model will appeal to “family oriented customers in their 30s and 40s”. The production K4 offers the choice of 1.8- and 2.0-litre engines.

Later in its lifecycle, the car will be available with a 1.6-litre turbocharged T-GDI gasoline engine, generating 176 ps and 265 Nm, together with Kia’s first seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) – a six-speed DCT is already offered in the Slovakia-built c’eed.
