The plan is the latest move by Dongfeng as part of its strategy to develop its own brand business. A Dongfeng official said Fengxing, Fengshen and Zhengzhou Nissan would imitate GM’s Chevrolet, Buick and GMC brands, respectively.

According to the plan, which was announced in 2011, subsidiary brands will have the same parts suppliers and sell their vehicles through the same sales channel, to cut costs.

Models of the three brands will be sold through “allied dealerships”, the first of which were set up in Fujian’s Hongyan, Hubei’s Xiangtan and Jilin’s Xinhui.
