Volkswagen has been the subject of protests across in China this week because of its handling of a car recall due to defective rear suspension parts.
It is feared that in rare cases, during a rear-side or rear-end impact, the rear torsion crank axle could bend or break.

The German automaker plans to recall some 581,000 Sagitar and Beetle models in its biggest market worldwide from February 2015, to install additional metal plates to reinforce the rear torsion crank axle.
Volkswagen will offer a 10-year guarantee for the repaired part as a “goodwill gesture” and stated that the current parts pose no danger under normal driving conditions.
Car owners are said to be dissatisfied with the delay in implementing the recall, which Volkswagen says is needed to prepare the new parts and service staff. Protesters are also demanding the carmaker replace the whole torsion axle, or provide a full refund for the part.
