Under the terms of the agreement, Exide is providing BMW with maintenance-free gel batteries for the K and R BMW motorcycle models. Eightly percent of BMW motorcycles will be equipped with Exide batteries in 2003.
In a statement, Exide said BMW chose its 19 amp-hour maintenance-free, valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) motorcycle battery after ‘concept competitions with competitors’ and eight months of laboratory and field tests.
The batteries are produced at Exide’s facility in Castanheira, Portugal, and shipped to the BMW motorcycle factory in Berlin, Germany.
