Former BMW development chief Herbert Diess has been named a full member of Volkswagen’s board of management effective 1 October 2015. He will take over as chairman of the VW passenger cars brand from Martin Winterkorn, who remains management board chairman.
That board will gain a new function of ‘chairman of the board of management of Volkswagen passenger cars’.

Diess currently is on the BMW management board responsible for development.
“With Diess we will be welcoming an outstanding personality and one of the most capable minds in the automotive industry to our company. At the same time, this step puts the executive management of both the group and the brand on an even broader footing,” Winterkorn said in a statement.
