Volkswagen Group India has broken ground for its new Central Training Centre alongside its car assembly plant in Chakan, Pune.

The centre will deliver 15,000 training man days every year when finished next autumn.

The centre will train dealership workers such as technicians to VW Group international standards amd will be the main hub for planning and carrying out training across India. It will also oversee the operation and budget of regional centres.

VW Group’s Indian region representative, John Chacko, said: “One of our main strategic goals is to be a top employer and to have a highly skilled workforce. Education and training is the key and here we set the basis for our future growth plans.”

Last year, VW introduced a technical education programme called VG-TAP which supports Indian polytechnics with the automaker’s latest training equipment and products. So far, seven schools across India are operating with this programme. In August, VW inaugurated its first Regional Training Centre in Chandigarh for dealership workers.
