Magna International has begun work on repairing a dashboard and automotive interiors plant in Michigan 40% damaged in a fire that started last Wednesday while scrambling to move production to other facilities to avoid a widespread customer shutdown.

The Wall Street Journal said General Motors was the only automaker as of Friday morning to have cancelled production shifts at some of its plants although a lengthy delay could result in shutdowns at Ford, Chrysler, Nissan and Mazda factories.
