Denmark has been authorised by the European Commission (EC) to fund around EUR2m (US$2.8m) for a pilot programme to incentivise electric car purchase.

The aid will cover additional expenditure involved with EV buying, as well as the cost for the trials and charging equipment.

The scheme is open to all fleet owners, public institutions and private enterprises, with those selected by the Danish Energy Agency, responsible for making the results of the vehicle trials available to the public.

Applications will be assessed independently of the make or model of car concerned and the scheme will run until 31 December next year.

“Considering the scheme’s total budget of EUR2m and its limited duration, it is unlikely car manufacturers or dealers could derive significant indirect benefits from its operation and the eventual distortions of competition will therefore be very limited,” noted an EC statement.
