“We are using the plant’s full capacity in a three-shift operation and hope that the new model will help us increase this year’s output to as many as 285,000 vehicles,” said company president Eek-Hee Lee.

Since first generation Ceed output began in December 2006, the plant has made over 635,000 cars, of which 13,000 were sold in Slovakia.

Over 900 new workers were hired for the new model and payroll is now over 3,900.

Kia will spend around EUR110m on the plant this year.
