Satellite navigation moved one step closer to being as common a standard in-car
fitting as a stereo when Peugeot UK announced on Tuesday (28/11/00) that it will
now be included on most 406 and 607 models.
The electronic road map will be fitted as standard to all Peugeot UK 406 models
from LX grade upwards, all 406 Coupé models except the entry level 2.0
and all 607 SE variants.

The move follows customer feedback that showed that what the French company
calls “the new-age version of the motoring atlas” is top of many drivers’
wish list of in-car features.
Claims Peugeot UK marketing director Rod Philpot: “Standard satellite
navigation is the icing on the cake for our customers. It gives us a distinct
competitive advantage over the major competition in those segments.”
He reckons that, like most in-car revolutions, satellite navigation was initially
dismissed by many as an expensive gadget. “But it will soon be as common
in cars as air conditioning and electric windows.”
Developed in conjunction with Siemens, the Peugeot satellite navigation system
features a display screen and voice directions given through the car’s
speakers as the radio simultaneously mutes.
