After announcing record sales for the first half of 2012 a month ago, BMW Group on Tuesday (7 August) said it had achieved a record sales result for July 2012 as sales worldwide rose 5% year on year to 135,537 units.

This was also the first time the automaker delivered over 1m vehicles in the first seven months – deliveries rose 7.6% to 1,036,088 vehicles.

Sales and marketing chief Ian Robertson said: “Our new vehicles have been very well-received – the luxurious BMW 6 series Gran Coupé has had an excellent start – and we are confident that the new 7 series and X1 which are launched this month will provide for further success.”

BMW brand sales rose 4.2% to 113,253 units in July and by 7.7% to 860,327 year to date.

Mini’s best ever July saw volume climb 9.6% to 22,083. Year to date sales were up 7.3% to 173,960 units.

In contrast, Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz, the smallest of Germany’s three dominant luxury brands, told Reuters on 3 August that its premium vehicle sales fell 3.1% in July to 97,327 vehicles. Volkswagen’s Audi is due to report July sales on 9 August.
