Tata Motors has appointed former General Motors India president and managing director Karl Slym as MD, replacing P M Telang who retired last June.
Slym, who starts on 1 October, will head Tata Motors operations in India and overseas, including South Korea, Thailand, Spain, Indonesia, South Africa.

Jaguar Land Rover will continue to be managed independently.
Slym most recently was executive vice president and a board member at GM joint venture SAIC-GM-Wuling in China. He has had a 17 year career with GM in various countries.
“We appreciate Karl’s many contributions to SGMW and General Motors and wish him well,” said Kevin Wale, president of GM China and chief country operations officer for China, India and ASEAN.
GM said Slym’s replacement in China will be named later.
