Jaguar is hoping that by adding a four-cylinder engine to the slow-selling XF sedan, it can begin to revive its fortunes in the USA. In July, the brand’s sales totalled just 1,011 units.
It isn’t just the 240hp turbocharged I4 engine that is new for the US’ 2013 model year XF: the all-wheel drive variant that is set to have its motor show world premiere in Moscow next week will also be available in the US.

The XF 3.0 AWD is powered by a 340hp 3.0-litre supercharged V6, which is another new offering. Both the rebranded Ford EcoBoost 2.0 engine and Jaguar Land Rover’s own V6 come with a standard ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox. The V6 is also available with rear-wheel drive only. This derivative replaces the former naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 which was dropped at the end of the 2012 model year.
The 2013 XF range starts at US$46,975 (2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo) and tops out at $83,200 (5.0-litre supercharged V8). Neither the 2.2- nor 3.0-litre diesel engines are available in North America despite Mercedes-Benz’s ongoing success with its E350 BlueTEC sedan. Jaguar has also chosen not to offer the new SportBrake (wagon) body style to US buyers.
