Mazda is to lauch a diesel version of its Tribute SUV as part of a plan to increase diesel models’ share of sales to 30 percent in Europe. Sales of diesel versions already account for 50 percent or more of model line volume in some European countries.

The diesel Tribute will share its two-litre engine, which meets tough new Euro IV emissions standards scheduled to take effect in 2004, with the new 6 passenger car range.


Mazda also plans to launch a diesel version of the all-new Demio due next spring. The Demio will share a Ford platform and a new 1.4-litre diesel engine developed jointly by PSA and Ford. It will be built in a Ford plant in Spain.
