Mahle is expanding is business in Asia to meet demand from vehicle makers in the region. It will expand its R&D centre in China, build a new production plant in Japan and enlarge two factories in Thailand.

The company’s R&D centre in Shanghai comprises central functions such as sales, purchasing, human resources, IT, and finance. It will be expanded by adding three new buildings and the number of employees will be increased from currently 230 up to as many as 450.

The new factory in Japan will be located on the north end of the island of Kyushu where Japanese vehicle manufacturers currently produce about 1.5m vehicles annually. Kyushu is also ideally located for seaports, important for exports and imports with East Asian markets. Proximity to Korea is also significant, because many supplier parts are imported from there.

The new plant will make air intake and filtration systems.

With Japanese manufacturers increasingly adding car and commercial vehicles production in Thailand Mahle Engine Components is enlarging its plant at its Bangkok location, which mainly produces pistons. Construction should be completed mext month and the new building will house an assembly line as well as measurement and testing equipment. It will also provide space for future machining and coating lines.

In Samutprakarn, Mahle Siam Filter Systems is adding new buildings primarily house storage areas and offices.
