Brazilian
car makers built 155,086 vehicles in July, according to the Brazilian National
Automaker’s Association (Anfavea), down 6.3% on the 165,578 units made in June.

But July production increased 5% over the 147,732 produced in the same month
a year ago.

Sales also fell 8.9% to 123,323 units compared with 135,368 vehicles in June.
Year on year, July sales were up 0.9% from 2000’s 122,171 units.

Brazilian car makers also exported fewer vehicles last month, shipping 33,095
units, down 3% on the 34,132 vehicles exported in June. In July 2000, 34,024
units were exported.
