Renault’s Clio III will continue in production following the launch of the redesigned, five-door hatchback and wagon model line earlier this year, the automaker said on Tuesday. This continues a Renault tradition, dating back to the second generation 5, of the predecessor line continuing awhile after its replacement is launched.

That G2 5 and a subsequent Clio were given an extended lease on life using the ‘Campus’ sub-brand; this time around the ‘old’ Clio will be distinguished from the ‘new’ with a ‘Collection’ nameplate.

The Clio Collection will be offered with two equipment levels – Alizé or Business – and two engines, the petrol 1.2 16V 75 and the diesel dCi 75.

Prices in France will start from EUR9,990 with assembly at Renault’s plant in Flins, near Paris. Additional production, until March 2013, will be at Valladolid, Spain.

“With total sales of almost 2.4m units since 2005, including more than 1m in France, the third-generation of Clio – which will be known as ‘Clio Collection’ – rounds off Renault’s range in the city car segment, alongside Twingo, Modus and New Clio,” the automaker said.

Both three- and five-door versions will be sold.
