Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit
an estimated 280,037 units, down from the 291,144 cars and trucks built last week,
according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.
Including this week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals
1,076,363 vehicles, down 22.5 percent from like-2000’s pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 200,115 vehicles this week,
down 0.5 percent from the 201,134 cars and trucks built last week. To date,
calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 759,849 units, down 24.0
percent from the 1,000,052 vehicles built in like-2000.
This week’s Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 45,162, a 19.6 percent
decrease from the 56,168 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar-2001
Canadian vehicle production now stands at 193,988 units, down 24.0 percent compared
to the 255,354 vehicles produced in like-2000.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General
Motors Corp. accounted for 37.7 percent; Ford Motor Co., 18.1 percent; Chrysler
of DaimlerChrysler, 14.3 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.7 percent; Toyota
Motor Mfg. Inc., 6.8 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.5 percent; New United
Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.5 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 2.1 percent; Mitsubishi
Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 2.3 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.0
percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.8 percent; BMW of North America
Inc., 1.2 percent; and other manufacturers, 2.0 percent.
