Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd has targeted an over 64 per cent rise in sales in the current year. The company stated its goal at the launch of a limited edition variant of its multi-purpose Qualis model. TKML will produce only 1,000 units of the premium vehicle, launched to mark its first year in the domestic market, priced at about Rs eight lakh ($UUS17,507), TKML managing director S. He said the company plans to sell 35,000 Qualis MPVs in 2001 against 21,285 units sold last year.

“In 2000, we had achieved a market share of 35 percent in the 62,000-volume domestic MPV market. This year, we expect to increase it to 46 per cent against a market volume of 75,000 units,” Yamazaki said.

TKML is also beefing up its dealer network in the country to 45 dealers by the end of this year and 50 by the end of 2002 against 27 at present, he said.

“We expect the Indian MPV market to grow by 10 per cent in the current year against eight per cent in 2000,” Yamazaki added.

The special-edition Qualis will come with solid-black paintwork and have features like white alloy wheels, leather steering wheel and side protective mouldings.

TKML at present sells three variants of the vehicle.

The company is a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan and the Kirloskar group.
