TomTom said on Tuesday its Connect integrated navigation system, tailored for General Motors Europe’s Opel and Vauxhall models, will be available as a dealer-fit item from December.
“This is the first time that drivers of these cars will have access to all the benefits of connected navigation,” TomTom said.

The maker of stand-alone navigators has also provided tailored systems for automakers including Renault and Toyota in recent years. In 2008 it launched an integrated system, with removable portable unit, for Toyota Europe’s Yaris and, in 2009, supplied a similar unit for Toyota Australia’s Yaris line. Also in 2008, it announced a partnership with Renault. Last month, Nissan launched its new NV400 van line – developed and built in partnership with Renault and GM Europe – with optional Nissan Connect, a TomTom-supplied mapping and route planning system with subscription-based ‘Live Service’ content including live HD Traffic updates, fixed and mobile speed camera warnings, weather forecasting and access to Google Local Search.
Opel-Vauxhall’s version of TomTom Connect is similar: integrated into the car and offering Live Services, HD Traffic and ‘dynamic routing’ which gives the fastest route to a destination based on the latest traffic situation. The system software and content can be updated through an online portal.

Connect will be available for the Astra J, Corsa D, Meriva B, Combo D and Insignia in Europe from December.
