Hino truck output plunged the most, by 40.2% to 5,167 units, with Toyota down 24.9% to 479,027 and small vehicle specialist Daihatsu dipping just 1.5% to 68,390.


Overseas production by the group was down 24.1% to 242,466 with Japanese output off 21.8% to 310,118.


Sales in Japan were down 12.9% to 119,818 units while exports were off 27.7% to 185,784.


Group production for calendar year 2008 fell 2.9% to 9,225,236 – Toyota built 8,210,818 vehicles (-3.8% due to reduced North American and European output); Daihatsu was up 6.1% to 908,202 and Hino output slipped 0.6% to 106,216.


Overseas group production was down 1.5% to 4,313,375 units while Japanese output fell 4.1% to 4,911,861.


Japanese sales fell 4.8% to 2,153,197 and exports were off 3.3% to 2,783,113.
