The Opel plant in Gliwice in southern Poland turned out 96,697 vehicles compared with 171,644 in 2008, GM Poland’s Przemyslaw Byszewski was quoted as saying by the news agency PAP, AFP reported.


The plant mainly produces the Opel Zafira minivan, making 64,000 last year.


In November, it also began production of the redesigned Astra and turned out 11,235 in the final two months of 2009.


Gliwice employs around 2,500 people.
