The car will be unveiled to a US audience at a press conference at the Detroit Science Center, a few miles away from where rivals will be displaying their latest models at the Detroit motor show.
Chinese automakers used a similar tactic to show off their cars several years ago.
Tata reiterated at this month’s New Delhi show it was developing a version of the Nano for eventual sale in the United States but that is at least three years off.
“The innovative thinking that brought the Tata Nano to market is symbolic of what Tata Technologies has to offer the automotive industry,” Warren Harris, president of the Michigan-based subsidiary Tata Technologies, told AFP.
