Russian carmakers are returning to normal production after slowing or stopping assembly lines for New Year and Russian Orthodox Christmas public holidays as well as slowing sales in the country.

The largest carmaker, AvtoVAZ, resumed production after a two week suspension in Togliatti while truck manufacturer Kamaz restarted following a 17 day suspension. It plans to operate four days per week until the end of January and to produce 1,785 vehicles and chassis in the period, the company said.
Kamaz said it planned to produce at least 28,200 vehicles in 2010 versus 23,300 vehicles in 2009.
GAZ in Nizhny Novgorod expects to resume production on 24 January having been shut down since late December.
Ford has returned to a five day work week at its St Petersburg factory which switched to a four day schedule in October due to falling car sales in Russia. The plant has over 2,400 employees assembling Focus and Mondeo cars.
