A German newspaper has reported that GM has ceded patents obtained by its Opel unit to the US Treasury in exchange for public aid.
 
The daily Bild-Zeitung reported that news while a Dow Jones report also suggested the same, adding the twist that GM plans to buy the Opel patents back at a later date.
 
If true, the news will cause further dismay in Europe where the fallout from GM’s financial difficulties is causing growing political anxieties. GM Europe’s requests for state assistance have been cautiously met by politicians, who are nevertheless concerned about job losses.
