India’s Honda Siel Cars is recalling 8,532 units of its best selling sedan City in the country as part of a 646,000-unit global recall of Jazz/Fit models and derivatives.

The Indian recalls are restricted to some cars produced in 2007 and do not cover either the new City that was launched in 2008 or the Indian Jazz.

“In India we have not received any complaints on the power window switch but we are still recalling some of the cars produced in 2007 as a preventive measure and as part of our global policy,” a Honda Siel spokesman told the Hindustan Times.

Honda Motor is recalling the Jazz and City sedan due to a faulty power window switch that could lead to a fire. Three cases of fires were reported in the US and South Africa last week.

The recall includes 140,000 vehicles in the United States and covers models sold in North America, South America, Europe, South Africa and Asia but not Japan.
