Suzuki’s Wagon R minicar was Japan’s best-selling vehicle for the fifth consecutive year, according to the Japan Automobile Dealers Association. Sales fell 7% in fiscal 2008, however, to 208,494 units.
Daihatu’s Move and Tanto from were second and third with sales of 193,358 units, down 3.3%, and 159,610 units, up 40.6%, respectively.
Low-priced, fuel-efficient minivehicles with engines of up to 660 cc took six of the top 10 spots.
When minicars and imported cars are taken out of the figures, Honda’s Fit was the best-selling vehicle for 2008, ahead of Toyota’s Corolla, according to Kyodo News.
